Sickle cell disease is a common hereditary blood disease almost exclusively among people of black African descent. Recent statistics estimate that 3 in 1,000 live births will have sickle cell disease. Severe disease will affect more than 50,000 black Americans.
The first accounting of sickle cell disease that has been documented was in the late 1800s in patients from Africa. African tribal languages had their own words to describe the disease that stole their infants. In 1910 Dr. Herrick from Chicago described the symptoms of a 20 year old black male from the West Indies and the blood smear showing thin, sickle-shaped and crescent-shaped red cells.
Sickle cell anemia affects the red blood cells which are responsible for delivering oxygen to the tissues and organs of the body. When the red cells arent capable of carrying the oxygen, or carry it inefficiently, the body suffers symptoms of lack of oxygen in the system. On top of this, individuals with sickle cell anemia can also suffer from sickle cell crisis. This is a severe attack that can cause pain as the blood vessels become blocked or the defective cells damage the organs in the body.

Yarrow (Achillea Millefolium) is indigenous to the northern hemisphere. The stems group up to a meter in length and have hairy leaves all along it. The leaves at the bottom of the stem are large and they gradually get smaller as they get closer to the flower. The flower are a whitish to pinkish color. It flowers in early summer and grows actively during the spring.
The common yarrow plant is very good at dealing with dry weather conditions, even droughts. It is great for stopping your soil from eroding because of it’s ability to withstand dry conditions. The seed must be planted shallowly because it requires light and a temperature of 65 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit to germinate. The soil it is planted in must also drain well. Common yarrow can be considered a problem plant because it grows rampantly and can invade your gardens like a weed.
Historically, yarrow has many uses as a natural medicine. The most active part of the plant, as a medicine, is the flowers. Yarrow is used for treating inflammation in the body. It is effective at helping to clot the blood and, strangely enough, helping it to flow more freely. It also is very good at treating headaches.

Sickle cell disease affects approximately 72,000 Americans with most being of African-American descent. This disease is a genetic disorder that causes the red blood cells to be misshapen and this will interfere with their ability to carry oxygen throughout the body.
Research into sickle cell anemia did not really start until the 1970s. This is when the government passed the National Sickle Cell Anemia Control Act. This act provided for information and education programs for health professionals and the public. It also established voluntary sickle cell anemia screening and counseling programs.
The Secretary of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare took the act a step further by establishing a National Sickle Cell Disease Program and assigned the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute the responsibility of developing a program of research into sickle cell disease.
Great advancements have been made since the establishment of these government programs. People who are born with sickle cell anemia now have access to medications and treatments that can help them avoid a sickle cell crisis.

Lie Without Saying A Word – Tips on Staying Youthful
Stop waking up in the morning and dreading having to look in the mirror because you look old. Instead, wake up to a relaxing full-body stretch and yawn unapologetically. Smile afterwards. If maintaining a youthful state-of-mind was as easy as that, everybody could just wake up to a good mood. Well, that can be a start. However, staying youthful means more than just those fancy chemicals advertised on TV promising you a youthful glow after seven days or so.
If you really want to take it seriously, first, you examine the things and the values which are attributed to being old. Examples of such are being no fun, unfashionable, irritable and weak. Lets dissect these attributes and turn them 180 degrees around.
SAY YES TO FUN!
Remember when you were a teenager? When the world seemed to lack boundaries and when rules are made to be broken? Feel that rush. I am not suggesting you become a criminal. Its just that when we get older, our priorities become tweaked. Readjust them again and insert some fun into it. Eat street ice cream once again! Have a Big Mac once in a while!

So now, are you set to defy aging and look young? If you are, then these age-defying tips will surely help you look youthful easily.
Tip 1
No matter what you do, whether you have a demanding schedule or just being lazy in your cozy home, make sure you are getting enough sleep- and a good one at that. Your eyes will first tell if you have had enough sleep. A pair of eye-bug-free and sparkling eyes definitely makes you look younger. But how many is the suggested sleeping duration?
Perhaps you were brought up thinking that you should sleep at least 8 hours a day. Well, you should not. A new study says that those who sleep 6-7 hours live longer and healthier. Too much slumber is not good for you. In fact, sleeping for five hours is better than sleeping three hours more than that.

Are Natural Skin Care Products the Answer to All Problems?
When it comes to skin care products, you will find that a lot of people are very particular about using only natural skin care products. They treat all the synthetic products as harmful to the skin.
So, are natural skin care products the answer to all of our problems? What if a natural skin care product is not available for the treatment of a particular skin disorder? Are the synthetic skin care products so harmful that they should be banned?
Different people have different answers to these questions. Anxiety attacks choose no one. It can happen to happy and perfectly normal people of all ages including children. Many cases of anxiety attacks just come out of the blue, or happen without any logical, clear or apparent reason. It may occur while you are relaxed during the day and even while asleep. Still, there are several ways on how to prevent anxiety attacks.
Learn about anxiety Understanding how anxiety affects the body as well as the mind can go a long way in your effort to prevent attacks. Read articles about anxiety and other psychological disorders that are related to it. Learn what are the things you should watch out for, things you should avoid, and practices you should do in case of an attack.
Avoid unnecessary stressors Recurring attacks are caused by “triggers” situations such as speaking in front of the public or getting trapped in an elevator. The effects of these triggers are often aggravated by stress. In other words, stress can act as a catalyst for such attacks to happen. Hence, reducing the stress level by avoiding unnecessary stressors can help prevent attacks. Avoid people that stress you out. Learn how to say ‘no’ to invitations as well as overtime when you have other things to do. Do not accept additional work that you can’t accomplish. These may seem very little things but can significantly increase stress level as well as increase the chances of having an attack.

Sleep apnea is a sleeping disorder where there is a ten second or longer interval in between each breath. In order to be considered apneic there must also be a neurological arousal, which is a change in EEG frequency of more than 3 seconds, and/or the blood oxygen must be desaturated by 3-4% or more. A signifigant case of sleep apnea has 5 or more of these apneic episodes each hour. These facts are discovered by using a sleep test called a polysomnogram.
There are 3 different types of sleep apnea:
Central sleep apnea – This happens when the respiratory system does not put out adequate effort. A chemical imbalance in the brain makes the respiratory controls operate ineffectively. A delayed reaction to the levels of Co2 in the blood actually causes the sleeper to stop breathing and then start breathing again after a pause. If you were observing this event you would notice that there is no struggle or strange chest movements. These events even happen during wakefulness. Since the brain cells need oxygen to survive extreme cases of central sleep apnea can lead to brain damage or even death.
